Attention, Orange County coastal residents with really big digs. Yes, you in Huntington Beach!

Someone in North Carolina is looking to swap your mansion for their mansion.

“Seeking PERMANENT SWAP of our fabulous waterfront retreat near Charlotte, North Carolina for YOUR home in beach community (Huntington Beach/Newport Beach, etc.) in OC. [4+ bedrooms and pool-sized yard preferred.],” the Craigslist ad says.

The listers describe their home as “incredible and enormous” with more than 7,200 square feet and 7+ bedrooms on Lake Norman.

They say the house has a pier, deepwater dock, jet ski slip and sandy beach. There’s a yacht club.  They add  that the home is $500k below market.

Swapping, apparently, is not the only way to go here. Selling, leasing and owner financing are all possibilities, the ad says.

Which makes me wonder: How many people, with or without an estate, would be game for something like this?

haha! they wont be getting anything near 7,200 sqft in coastal OC.

Damn, NC is absolutely gorgeous! If I didnt have a great job I’d be living there in a heart beat! California is a complete crap hole now.

  • Dave says:

Yard big enough for a pool!?! A beach front lot, with a pool, in HB or NB… So, basically, they want two, or more, beach front lots in OC for their digs on a lake in NC… Not a fair trade, from an OC perspective!

  • Mary says:

why not? there’s such a huge difference between swapping vs. selling up/buying a new one? I for one LOVE all that hunting, paperwork, familiarizing, legwork, comparison, etc…..

where’s the downside to swapping again? oh right… first you gotta know what you want and have the brains to determine if it’s a fraud… unlike when you do years and miles and dollars worth of legwork besides…

    : )

Just did a quick search - the highest price home for sale in Cornelius, NC, which is on Lake Norman, is $4.9 mil. He MIGHT find someone out here willing to trade - our neighbor just sold his beachfront for $4 mil. But room for a pool? I wonder if he’ll want that to be a saltwater pool! Hee!

Thank you Cliff for your kind remarks. That’s my house listed in the Swap. To the others, no need to be snarky, isn’t it just as easy to be kind?!? Please read more closely before criticizing, thank you so very much … I didn’t mention, nor do I expect, an ocean FRONT property or even ocean view. Nor, for that matter, do I expect comparable square footage, comparable acreage, or comparable elegance. I simply mentioned that I’d prefer a 4+ bedroom home with pool-sized yard in beach community. Any realtor in OC will tell you that there are plenty of homes in the coastal communities that meet my criteria. Because I already live in OC, I know of a number of 4+ br homes with approx. 10,000 sq ft lots in the area listed for between $ 1.5 to 2.0 M. I’m actually looking for an even or similar trade (dollar-wise) so one could conceivably make an even trade with us. There are plenty of people who want to move to various areas of the country for a multitude of reasons. The pent-up demand is enormous, with people all over the country unable to sell their homes. Anyway, give me credit to trying to generate interest in my NC home in a slow market. Marilyn, thanks for the mention. Happy Holidays to all! J.
