Bungalow from 1922 (or ‘48?) on the market in H.B.

December 23rd, 2008, 3:00 am · 7 Comments · posted by Marilyn Kalfus, real estate reporter

This bungalow the county says was built in 1922 is being offered for $750,000. It would be a short sale, Realtor David MacLeod says.

The home, at 317 8th St.,  is two blocks from the beach and on a ”buildable lot … can rehab or tear down and build 3-story 2,875-square foot home with possible ocean views …” the listing says.

It’s “drive-by only” and not showable for now.

There are some differences in the records. For instance, the county says the home was built in 1922; Some real estate Web sites have it constructed around 1948. I’ll look into that and some other questions another time.

The home sold for $850,000 in September, 2005, according to county property records.

Most of you know this, but some may not: A short sale is when the amount from a sale falls short of the balance owed to the lender. Of course, the bank/lender has to approve it.

There are new 3-story houses all over downtown Huntington Beach. Anyone know how many of these little bungalows are left anymore?

I don’t know what the lot or bldg. size is, but if you buy it to tear down you likely have historians after you suing to stop. If you leave it as is you likely have the county on your back about a hazardous eyesore.

      John,

According to the Redfin listing, the lot size is 2,875 sq ft. Yes, that’s not a mistake. The house is around 1,000 sq ft.

750,000 short sale for this shack 2 blocks from the beach? whaaaat, is it late 2006, or 2008??

For 3/4 of a million, do they cut you a break on the parking meters? If so, how much do they charge your buddies when they park near your house? Got quarters? I know the area well, I grew up there. My brother just moved off of an old 4-plex at 6th and Orange to save big bucks by moving slightly inland. Looking for a “free” parking spot was a nightmare when I would visit, even in the winter.

Someone’s been drinking some really messed up coolaid for this matter. Hey, if someone likes that coolaid and wants to pay that much for a shack. Great, but I think we are starting to all realize the market has been a rip off for too long now. It’s time the housing prices adjust to normal levels.
