Swap your H.B. house for one near Sin City?

January 14th, 2009, 3:00 am · 9 Comments · posted by Marilyn Kalfus, real estate reporter

First there was that adventurous woman in North Carolina. Now someone from Nevada is also looking to switch their home for one in Huntington Beach.

The ad says:

“Looking to trade housing. Job transfer to Huntington Beach, CA. Have a 3500 sq. ft. home on private golf course in Henderson, NV just outside of Las Vegas. Interested in details, email me below.”

The email is hous-983950356@craigslist.org.

I don’t have photos of the Nevada property yet, in upscale MacDonald Highlands, pictured below, but stay tuned.

When I recently wrote about Jenifer Weigand, the North Carolina woman looking to swap her estate for a big Surf City house, I included an excerpt from the Wall Street Journal on this trend. People used to do this just for vacations, but now they’re subbing homes for the long haul.

There are even Web sites for house swapping, including onlinehousetrading.com and goswap.org and domuswap.com.

Money Magazine named Henderson one of the top 20 places to live in America in 2006. Last year, it came in at No. 84.

Huntington Beach was not ranked in 2008, presumably because it did not make the magazine’s top 100. Irvine came in at No. 4.

So they think Irvine and Henderson are better than Huntington Beach? I dunno, should Surf City feel snubbed?

    • I have no comment.

    • With all the illegal aliens, shootings, rapes, robberies, muggings in the O.C. why would someone want to live there?

    • bobbyc says:

As long as the person who wants the swap, doesn’t mind living in a two bedroom 700 sq ft. condo off Beach Blvd, I am sure he will find all kinds of offers.

Been to Vegas lately? Per capita, there’s a lot more illegals in Vegas now than in the OC. It makes Santa Ana in comparsion seem actually quaint.

    • bpsqwerty says:

agree with “bobbyc”, it’s a nice home but don’t expect much sqft in return! and Robert Bobby G (not the same guy as bobbyc apparently) seems confused if he wants to comment or not.

p.s. dunno is not a word

Yep, you are right bp! But, I dunno, sometimes you can get away with it: http://www.nypost.com/seven/01042009/news/regionalnews/manhattan/cuomo__alas__new_yorick__i_dunno_147128.htm

We live in BHC Az. 90 minute all open highway drive to Las Vegas. Also 10 minutes away from the Laughlin Nevada gambling town. We have a 2300sq ft home custom on top of hill overlooking Casinos and Surrounding Mountains. Would like to swap with a home in Huntington Beach. We moved from H.B. 14 years ago and wish to return. Fully landscaped 1/2 acre with lots of ammenities and custom features too many to mention. If interested, kindly direct your inquiries to PO Box 32571 Laughlin, Nevada 89028

The Best Parts of the Las Vegas Valley are full of people that used to live in Orange County. I suspect, due to this massive housing bubble going kaput, that trend will increase in the coming years.
